Her Story
The big day was Saturday, October 20th, 2012. It was game day in Aggieland and spirits were high. Err, stress was high. We were looking forward to an early day of tailgating, football, and meeting up with old friends. Annd, we were running late. We were behind schedule and for once it was ME waiting on Robert. I was dolled up and ready to go, and where was Robert? Clipping his toenails upstairs.
When he was finally ready to go, we headed out and began our 30 minute trek towards Kyle Field. I was so upset about being late that I pulled out the silent treatment...but not for long. The silence got the best of me and I began to let go of punctuality (I never can stay mad at him for too long). By this time, Robert had somehow managed to drag me through an odd walking route around campus. As we came around a familiar old dorm building and the famed 100 year old tree, I saw them all there. Our families, siblings and all.
Once under the shade of that crooked live oak, he got on one knee. Then came the tears. And hugs. And kisses. Oh, and lots of pictures. My sister had flown in from Philly and our families had driven from Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston. He somehow managed to bring them all together for this special day. It was PERFECT.
(Except for the scoreboard at the game, but that's another story...)
His Story
October was a tense month for me. After several months of paperwork, I finally had enlisted in the Army and was beginning to make plans for the future. While my life plans had been in a state of flux for the past few months I always knew that Andrea was going to be at the center of them.
Several weeks before the engagement I began coordinating with the families to get them all in the same spot for Saturday, I purchased a ring and set the weekend up with Andrea (she thought we would be going to tailgate and see Texas A&M play LSU).
The morning of the engagement I was in communication with both families to make sure they had all arrived to the engagement spot at the correct time. As is typical on game day in College Station, the cell towers were overused and it was nearly impossible to receive messages or phone calls. So I dragged the morning out taking my sweet time to get ready (...yes, even clipping my toenails). Once I had received the final word that both families were in place, Andrea and I began to walk toward the Century Tree. This was the easiest part of the whole day because I knew everything was in place. As soon as we got under the tree, I dropped to one knee and proposed.
Luckily, she said yes.
And so it Happened...
